I’m sitting in Patrick’s Advanced DL workshop, and this is great. Wait until you all see this. We’re in hour-two of the session and Patrick is walking us through a step-by-step presentation of how to create audio podcasts (which he clearly distinguishes from enhanced podcasts and video pod casts).

We just witnessed Miss Mac performing an illustrative rendition of creating a podcast for her class. Patrick is now teaching us how to turn the recorded piece into a “digitally mastered’ mp3 that can be cleanly and clearly inserted into a blackboard class.

Hour-one was Patrick giving us theory and methodology. He stressed the importance of communication. He also drove home the point that “we can’t take what works in the traditional classroom and use those strategies online.” In other words, it takes a bending of traditional ideas and views toward teaching. He also pointed us toward his list of online-teaching best practices

As I sit here and participate in this invigorating session, I think it would be interesting to examine not only how online teaching is different from traditional classroom teaching, but how teaching online methodology differs from teaching traditional methodology.

Great stuff Patrick. You can tell that everyone in the room is energized.

  1. Don,. I couldn’t agree more. I really got a lot out of our workshop today! One of my goals, besides adding the audio, will be to try to incorporate more of my personality into my on-line courses. -Lela

  2. I enjoyed the workshop, too. Patrick always does a great job with his presentations. He prepares his work in such a way that when he presents it, the information sinks right in for his audience/participants. Overall, I give today’s workshop two thumbs up. The information was very helpful! Thanks Patrick!
