Blackboard Boot Camp
We are going to wrap up the fist year of the Title III DL component with a series of intense and comprehensive Blackboard (Professional Development) Boot Camps. We plan to have four Boot Camps over the summer and they will consist of 3 training modules per boot camp and will be conducted on Friday’s and possibly some Saturday mornings. Attending all 3 training modules will earn participants a CCC Online Teaching Certification which will be displayed as a graphic logo on all online courses taught by that individual. Starting this Fall any faculty member planning on teaching online or is teaching online must become Blackboard certified. Module I can be waived due to extensive online teaching experience at the discretion of the Director of Distance Learning.

• Module I – Basic Blackboard 7.2 Functionality and Operation
• Module II – Online Instructional Design and Methodology
• Module III – Advanced Blackboard Techniques – Producing Instructional Podcasts, Video, ITunes and instructional strategies for integrating rich media content into online courses.
Blackboard Boot Camp #1 Friday, May 18 – 3 sessions Location will be announced later.
Module #1 9:00 – 11:00
Module #2 1:00 – 3:00
Module #3 3:00 – 5:00
Please note you don’t have to do the entire camp in one session. There will be a minimum of 4 Blackboard Boot Camps during the Summer Semester and more if needed.
CCC Faculty who attend ALL THREE Blackboard Boot Camp will receive a Tee Shirt and Digital Recorder for producing instructional Podcasts.
CCC Adjunct Faculty will be paid $22 per hour + travel if coming from out of town to attend the Boot Camp.
Speaking candidly, May 18th is our first day off in the summer short work -week. If we are (full time) – we may should reschedule. I understand the need to pay adjuncts for their time, but we must treat full time people equally.

You have blackboard Boot camp scheduled for just the month of May. How about offering these sessions through out the summer semester. That way we can attend these classes and still have some summer fun. Also, instead of having all three modules on the same day, spread them out.
Thanks,
Brenda

I think the classes are being offered in May covers what needs to be done before summer school session starts. However, I do feel like that a lot of “off-time” staff take vacations in the early part of summerand it might be a problem for them.

With all due respect, I wish the move to Blackboard 7.2 had been postponed until the Fall Semester. That way, the summer might be spent learning about and becoming acclimated to the new system via Boot Camp. Yesterday, I turned in my grades. Today, I begin preparing two Blackboard 7.2 courses for other faculty to run this summer. Only nine days to complete them. Patrick said it took him 3 months to learn the new system.

We will have 3 other BB boot camps over the summer. I will send out the dates for these next week. We had no choice for switching to the new BB – the entire state cc system is making the switch. If you have taught on BB before the learning curve is not bad so not to worry.
