DL Pioneer Problem Solving Session
On Friday, November 16th Dr.’s Abbie Brown and William Sugar, Program Directors of the Instructional Technology Program at East Carolina University visited our Phase I and II Title III DL Pioneers and moderated a distance learning problem solving session in the video conference room of CMAST.
This was the first visit by Doctor’s Brown and Sugar to help Carteret online faculty identify, address and hopefully solve some of the challenges and issues surrounding their online teaching. The Pioneers voiced a variety of concerns and questions such as the frustrations of motivating online students, teaching complex concepts and activities via the blackboard and asked for suggestions about community building and the best ways to assess that learning is occurring on their online courses.
This was a great opportunity for our DL Pioneers to come together and share the issues they’ve been facing as they migrate more and more of their course content to the online Environment. Hopefully Dr. Brown and Dr. Sugar will return again to help us facilitate effective solutions to some of these online instructional design challenges.
