DL Update for the New Year

Filed under: Distance Learning - P. Keough — Don Staub @ 7:18 pm

I hope you had an enjoyable and restful Christmas holiday and terrific New Year.

Great Start
I want to get our Title III DL team off to a great and productive start as we begin this new semester, so let me update you on where we are at this point in time. Our search committee is evaluating applications and will be moving forward with the interviewing process for the Distance Learning assistant. I’ll keep you posted on our progress. The person we hire will be a great asset in assisting us with all facets of our course retooling, upgrading and online course development initiatives. The equipment I ordered before Christmas break is starting to arrive and I will let you know shortly when we are ready to begin checking out laptops, Ipods recorders and digital cameras.

I plan on scheduling short “one on one” meetings with each member of our team just so I can identify your specific professional development (course development)) needs. I would like to get these short meetings accomplished between January 11 and 12th. Let me know if you have 30 minutes to an hour to meet with me sometime during this time. I am keeping both days open just for these initial meetings. I’m well aware that we have a very diverse group of professionals with different levels of distance learning experience. Once we identify what those specific needs are we can move forward with your various course upgrades and/or new course development.

I also ask that you begin writing your first audio podcast. I suggest this be for your initial course orientation and presents an overview of your course content, teaching philosophy and specific expectations for your student’s success. Click below for an example of an orientation podcast. Once you have it written we will schedule you a time to record it and upload it to ITunes.

I’m looking forward to working with you as we move forward together on Title III Grant project.

  8. You should all check out the Berkley ITunes site. This link has been a big help to me as I design and configure our ITunes inteface for CCC. I have taken the first few babysteps in designing and activating our portal (ITunes Gateway) – I’ll keep you all posted as I learn how this all works.

    Thanks Bob!
