Discussion: Best Learning Center Practices to Support Online Student Success and Retention.

Overview:
Learning assistance personnel face a challenge as campus students enroll in online courses. Online students need specific learning and study strategies support for online course success. Online Instructors need a learning assistance perspective to consider how to support student learning. This presentation looks at some promising learning center practices that can be implemented or strengthened.

  3. What about providing resources to students (in the bookstore and/or library) that will help them become better online learners? e.g. 100 things every online student ought to know.

  4. I thought a good amount of info in the webinar was about getting students access to support services rather than specifically how to improve learning services to improve retention. I believe we do a good job of providing access already although several of us brainstormed more ideas at the end of the session. Heather Hebert

  5. I agree with Heather. I do believe CCC is doing a relatively good job with providing our students support services such as online tutoring, effective online learning workshops and web resources. I do agree that support services for our dl students is a critical factor in retaining students. I like the idea of adding a button on all Blackboards for online support service links – I am going to address this with our DL Advisory.
